Sexual Health Q & A

During Sex Week pop-up tablings, we offered students an opportunity to submit anonymous sexual health questions to be answered by our health educators. See what they are here.

Are STIs normal?

Yes! Over half of all Americans will have an STI during their lifetime, and the CDC estimates that 1 in 5 people in the United States have an STI at any given time. People living with STIs have full, happy, and safe sex lives.

Can STIs and STDs impact fertility?

Yes — untreated STIs and STDs can lead to inflammatory conditions or dysfunctions that can lessen fertility. It's a great idea to get regularly screened to manage conditions!

How can I stay safe in hookups?

Everyone has different green and red areas in how they hook up, and taking the time to understand what does and doesn't feel good for you sexually and mentally is key to staying safe in college hook-up culture!

Is it normal to not have sex in a relationship?

Yes! In a study reported by the Williams Institute, 59% of asexual people (compared with 61% of non-asexual LGB people) were in romantic relationships. Every single person, regardless of romantic or sexual orientation, experiences desire and their relationship in a different way.

Where can I get pregnancy tests?

The UHS Pharmacy, on-campus health & wellness vending machines, and Planned Parenthood provide fast and affordable tests.

Should I still use a condom if I am on birth control?

Birth control does not prevent the spread of STIs, so if this is a concern, use a condom.
